AMAPCEO Suggests Improvements to Political Financing Bill

Update

Wednesday, August 17, 2016

As members will know, the provincial government has proposed changes to the way political parties and election campaigns are financed in the province.

Bill 201 (the Election Finances Statute Law Amendment Act) would eliminate corporate and union contributions to political parties and regulate political advertising.

AMAPCEO is generally supportive of these changes, but we offered a few comments in a letter to the committee reviewing the Bill. Our submission endorses the move to curtail corporate and union donations; urges that the donation limit be lowered; and expresses concern that the proposed regulations on advertising may limit our ability to run issues-based campaigns around collective bargaining prior to or during an election campaign. Read our submission on Bill 201:
